Static Routing is one type of routing process, in which network administrators manually define the different networks on a router. As these routes are statically configured, so they do not change with the change in network configurations. If there is a change in the network then network administrators have to manually configure that change in the router or any layer three devices. With the help of Static Routing, we can configure a default route, which has various usages in networking.

Advantage of Static Routing
- Static Routing does not have any trigger update messages, so it is more secure in comparison of various dynamic routing protocols.

- It can be easily configured on a small network. So, it is efficient for small network.
- With the help of static routing, a Default route can be propagated towards ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Disadvantage of Static Routing
- Unlike dynamic routing protocols, an administrator has to manually configure static routes on routers. So, it is a time-consuming process.
- It is efficient for a small network, but not for a large network.
- Static routing creates burden on an administrator.
